Andrew Bartlett
Director of Science and Engineering
I’m Andy Bartlett, Director of Science and Engineering at Definition. I’ve been in the PR for 35 years. I’m a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and a Chartered PR Practitioner. As a qualified materials scientist, I’m one of the few chartered in both engineering and PR.
I started my career in 1990 at BL Technology (later Rover) as a graduate trainee based at Gaydon Proving Ground. I worked in the Experimental Stress Lab, becoming an expert in acoustic emission with several published papers. This led to my Toyota Award for technical excellence at the ISATA 87 symposium in Florence. I then spent a year at Longbridge with the Honda liaison team.
In 1990, I switched to PR at a small consultancy in Birmingham. I worked with all sorts of B2B clients in industries like electrical switchgear, materials handling, weighbridges and weighing equipment, fasteners, valves, castors, shop-fitting, direct mail printing and historic building restoration.
In 1999, I joined Roger Staton Associates, pioneers of science and engineering PR, which eventually became Definition. I’ve worked with clients like ABB and Saft for 25 years, as well as Amokabel, ANDRITZ, Ovako, Outokumpu and Rockwool Core Solutions.
