Andrew Bartlett
Director of Science and Engineering
I’m Andy Bartlett, Director of Science and Engineering at Definition. I’ve been in the PR for 35 years. I’m a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and a Chartered PR Practitioner. As a qualified materials scientist, I’m one of the few chartered in both engineering and PR.
I started my career in 1990 at BL Technology (later Rover) as a graduate trainee based at Gaydon Proving Ground. I worked in the Experimental Stress Lab, becoming an expert in acoustic emission with several published papers. This led to my Toyota Award for technical excellence at the ISATA 87 symposium in Florence. I then spent a year at Longbridge with the Honda liaison team.
In 1990, I switched to PR at a small consultancy in Birmingham. I worked with all sorts of B2B clients in industries like electrical switchgear, materials handling, weighbridges and weighing equipment, fasteners, valves, castors, shop-fitting, direct mail printing and historic building restoration.
In 1999, I joined Roger Staton Associates, pioneers of science and engineering PR, which eventually became Definition. I’ve worked with clients like ABB and Saft for 25 years, as well as Amokabel, ANDRITZ, Ovako, Outokumpu and Rockwool Core Solutions.

I love crafting strategic campaigns for clients in healthcare, charity, and education. From organising charity fundraisers with members of the Royal Family to opening the London Stock Exchange, I’ve had the opportunity to work on exciting national brand awareness campaigns for healthcare brands.
Throughout my tenure, I’ve helped our clients achieve remarkable results. Together with our talented team, we’ve created impactful campaigns that have received recognition and awards at prestigious events like the European Excellence Awards.
Passionate about making a positive impact, I’m dedicated to helping our clients achieve their goals. Let’s collaborate and create some game-changing campaigns together!

It’s all for a worthy cause, mind you: helping clients improve their organisation’s employee experience and engagement, improve their internal communications, and support leaders in connecting and inspiring in a world that’s changing crazy fast.
The funny thing is, I used to be a fashion journalist. But now we’re back to rabbit holes again. So, let’s just say that 20+ years later, I love what I do: helping work become a better and more purposeful place.
