Surrey-based charity Your Sanctuary serves men, women and children affected by all forms of domestic abuse. The organisation provides advice, resources and services, all free of charge.
As a charity, Your Sanctuary naturally dedicates most of its resources to its cause. This leaves reduced time and finances to support its incredibly important fundraising efforts. The team recognised the potential that social media had for getting the charity in front of more people and, ultimately, increasing donations. However, Your Sanctuary lacked in-house resources and expertise, so they started looking for a social media agency to help them get started.
Definition was eager to assist Your Sanctuary because of the excellent work they do. Definition’s experienced social team kicked the process off with an immersion session and in-depth research into the charity’s existing social media channels and content.
The output of our project was a bespoke social media strategy, covering a series of resources and guidelines for the charity that would enable its internal team to post like pros. This included a series of core content pillars, a set of graphic and video templates, and a Facebook advertising campaign.
Definition ran Your Sanctuary’s social channels for one month – achieving great results – before handing the reins over to the internal team. Definition’s experts also provided training and consultancy to ensure that they were confident with the tools before we signed off.
The results were incredible. The Facebook campaign reached over 25,000 people and earned 697 clicks on a limited budget, and interactions and engagement rates have increased on all platforms. The strategy was particularly successful on LinkedIn, where the need to engage corporate partners was particularly pressing, seeing the engagement rate shoot up to a remarkable 40.67% in just one month.

“We had identified that we needed to increase our social media skills to drive donations and increase awareness of our services. We knew that we would need some external expertise to help us with this, so we engaged Definition, and the agency has been invaluable as a partner in this piece of work.
They put together a team who understood our work and charity status. The team worked to our brief and delivered a practical and accessible social media strategy that met our needs. They also provided support to implement the strategy and have upskilled our staff so that we have become much more knowledgeable meaning that we can get the most out of our social media content and can utilise the best tools to assist us.
Definition generously gave us some time pro bono to support our social media staff in the first few weeks of implementation, and we are now in a great place to continue to develop our social media strategy. We are very grateful to Definition for their professionalism, knowledge and understanding.”
